Olay Moisturizers Review: Your All-in Guide for Three of the Best Drugstore Moisturizers in the Market
In a world where having glass, luminous skin has become the standard for beauty, Olay moisturizers can be considered one of the champions of budget-conscious skincare enthusiasts. Following the trend, the known drugstore brand has quickly scooped up new loyalists thanks to its effective line of products that it has always churned over the years.
Olay has been there before the “beauty revolution” that dethroned Kardashian-esque makeup in favor of healthy, moisturized skin has started, but this time the spotlight is even more clear on its various lines of products that hit the perfect balance between being effective and friendly to the wallet. It’s most known for its rich whips and anti-aging serums, a lot of which have ended up on the must-have list of many beauty enthusiasts. In a world of ten-step-skincare routines and expensive face masks with gold flecks, Olay moisturizers are a value for money, if not a saving grace.

About the product:
Yes, its name can be quite a mouthful, but you can trust this tone perfecting cream to do its job when it comes to evening the skin tone. Coming in a heavy, luxurious-looking pot, this light-scented Olay Cream promises to brighten the complexion in just a period of eight weeks. Its fomula contains PearlOptics Science that works to fade dark spots, sun spots, age spots, and other skin discoloration all while moisturizing it to build that dewy, luminous glow. It can be used during the day before applying makeup and at night as the last step to your skincare routine.
The lowdown:
If you’re not a big fan of rich, heavy moisturizing creams that leave your face feeling like an oil spill, then this one’s a good product to try. The first thing you’ll notice upon opening the box is its on-point packaging—it’s literally one of the prettiest drugstore face moisturizers you can grab out there. It has a very light consistency that doesn’t fall in the drippy type of category and it goes on light and is easily absorbed by the skin. This tone perfecting cream Olay offers has a light scent to it though, which—though not overwhelming—can be a deal-breaker for some who prefer unscented products.
In terms of effectiveness, a lot of Olay Tone Perfecting Cream reviews claim that they have noticed immediate changes in their skin tone after using it. The cream itself instantly gives a brightening effect upon application, all thanks to its PearlOptics technology. It evens skin tone too by diminishing red spots with niacinamide and helping fade dark spots with the amino peptides on its formulation. A lot of reviews swear at its brightening powers, though you may have to find a stronger pot of moisturizer if you have darker sun spots.
This Olay dark spot and daily moisturizer can be used at any time of the day—you can easily layer it with makeup since it gets easily absorbed by the skin. Do note though that it doesn’t come with sunscreen so you can’t skip that essential if you’re planning to go out for the day.
Best for: all skin types. This Olay daily moisturizer goes on very light and won’t leave you feeling oily throughout the day.
Pros:
- Instantly brightens complexion upon application
- Easily absorbed by the skin
- Can be used day and night
- Effectively evens overall skin tone
- Helps fade dark spots
- Leaves the skin feeling moisturized and hydrated
- Light scent but smells amazing
Cons:
- The instant brightening may be less noticeable for those with darker complexions
- Doesn’t entirely erase vivid sun spots

About the Product:
If there’s one position Olay has cemented in the market, it’s being one of the best drugstore brands for age-defying products. The brand, however, has also been racking up glowing reviews for its moisturizing line, and the Olay Regenerist Whip Face Moisturizer is a good proof of that.
Formulated for the no-nonsense skin fanatics out there, this Olay daily moisturizer marries two important skin benefits: moisturizing and age-defying. The product promises to deliver wrinkle-smoothening results while hydrating the skin using its advanced Amino-Peptide Complex II moisturizer that improves elasticity. Also mixed in on its formulation is an Active Rush Technology that makes its cream consistency turn into the liquid the moment it touches the skin—making it easily melt and sink in to leave a smooth and shine-free finish. It can be used day and night and promises not to leave the skin with a sticky, icky feeling.
The lowdown:
One look at the ingredients list of this Olay daily moisturizer and you’ll see just how good it is. It has hyaluronic acid which works to keep the skin hydrated by drawing in moisture from the environment and locking it there. The result is visibly plumped skin that improves the look of fine lines and wrinkles. For the best hydrating results, we recommend you to use it after spritzing on a face mist, gently massaging it all over the face just before the layer of moisture dries.
In terms of its anti-aging benefits, this Olay Age Defying moisturizer helps boost the skin’s overall health with its amino peptides which are blocks of amino acids that serve as the building blocks of our cells. The more you have on your skin, the more you can produce collagen which—as any self-proclaimed skin enthusiast knows—results to more elastic, youthful-looking skin.
If you’re someone who wears makeup during the day or someone who just hates putting lots of layers on your face, this Olay cream can help cut you back on your skincare steps because of its combined age-defying and moisturizing properties. And no, you don’t have to worry about ending up with a greasy-looking complexion. Unlike other moisturizers that come in whipped consistencies, this goes on very light and smooth on the face, melting like liquid so that you feel like you’re just slathering on air. Some reviews even claim that they use it as a makeup primer because of the matte-free finish that it leaves.
And as if that’s not enough, the Olay Regenerist Whip Face Moisturizer is also packed with Vitamin B3, a powerful component that improves skin appearance just as much as it does its health. Not only does it help the skin retain hydration, but it also works by protecting it from harmful components brought by weather and pollution.
Best for: Normal, Combination, and Oily Skin.
Pros:
- Has powerful ingredients that helps plump the skin and retain its hydration
- Leaves the skin looking youthful by filling out fine lines
- Formulated with Vitamin B3 and amino peptides which improves the overall health of the skin
- Goes on very light and can be used day and night.
- Can also be used as a makeup primer.
Cons:
- It’s not really a con, but this cream comes with a light scent. It’s not overwhelming enough to be considered a downside though.
Ingredients: Avobenzone 3.0%, Homosalate 8.0%, Octisalate 4.0%, Octocrylene 5.0%Inactive Ingredients: Water, Tapioca Starch, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Dimethicone, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, BHT, Caprylyl Glycol, Dimethiconol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Behenyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, PEG-100 Stearate, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Sodium Polyacrylate Starch, 1,2-Hexanediol, Phenoxyethanol
About the product:
You know a product is good if a brand does two versions of it. That’s exactly the case of the Olay Total Effects Whip Face Moisturizer, which, in a lot of ways can be considered as an upgraded version of the Olay Regenerist Moisturizer. Similar to the former, this Olay face lotion boasts of skin-quenching properties and Active Rush Technology that makes it melt seamlessly into the skin. Unlike the Whip Face Moisturizer which only focuses on moisturizing and anti-aging, however, this one promises a total of seven benefits namely moisturizing, evening of skin tone, smoothing of fine lines, minimizing of pores, brightening of complexion, restoring skin firmness, and fading of dark spots. All that in a face cream that can also double as sun protection with its SPF 25. Adding to its powerful formulation are Vitamins C and E which helps nourish and brighten the skin.
This Olay daily moisturizer can be used day and night. When used during the day, however, make sure to apply it liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure to set the product in and re-apply every two hours.
The lowdown:
This is the ultimate face cream to have if you’re the type of girl who prefers having a multi-purpose product that can target multiple skin concerns. Not only does it help leave the skin feeling moisturized and well hydrated with its active ingredients, it even comes with SPF, cutting down the layers you’ll have to pile on your skin. It is a bit different than the Olay Regenerist Whip Face Moisturizer in terms of consistency—while the other is more creamy, the Total Effects Whip Face has a whipped, foamy texture to it. Both apply very smoothly on the skin though, thanks to Olay’s Active Rush Technology which turns the cream from liquid once it touches the skin.
Reviews for this Olay cream also praise it for being an amazing line-smoothing formula. Similar to the Olay Regenerist, it effectively plumps the skin, leaving it looking more youthful while boosting its health. And while it does not focus that much on the addition of amino peptides like the Regenerist, it still does a pretty good job in holding water into the skin which, in the long run, can also improve its condition.
Brightening-wise, it definitely does not have the instant luminosity that the Olay Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream offers, but it does work on getting to that goal in a more long-term timeframe. A lot of reviews claim that this Olay daily moisturizer has helped them achieve a brighter and more even complexion after regular use.
What we really love about this Olay day cream, however, is its fragrance-free formulation. Users with ultra-sensitive skin can suffer from allergies from scented products, and this face cream cancels out that possibility with its formulation. Like the Olay Regenerist, we also love using this as a face primer because of the shine-free finish it leaves upon application. Now, that’s what you call bang for your buck.
Best for: Normal, Combination, and Oily Skin types.
Pros:
- Comes with seven benefits that target different skin problems
- Applies smoothly
- Doesn’t feel heavy on the face
- Can be used as a face primer
- Hydrates the skin and makes it glow upon regular use
- Comes with SPF 25
- Has a fragrance-free formulation
Cons:
- Maybe it is because of the multiple benefits it promises, but this product does not have the same level of hydrating power as the Olay Regenerist. Then again, the former is focused on its moisturizing and anti-aging benefits while this one is designed to be an all-in product.
Conclusion:
When it comes to its products, Olay moisturizers have definitely secured its spot in the beauty vanities of women of all ages. In an age where more is considered better for skincare, it sometimes feels lacking to settle on just a single jar of face cream, especially if you’ve been dreaming of sporting clear, well-moisturized, glass skin. But then again, it’s important to remember that it’s not wrong to admit that cult multi-step skincare rituals can be overwhelming for the skin, and on your wallet on top of that. Thankfully, Olay’s moisturizers are here to shake up that trend—and it promises to deliver good results.
